Unable to print "No printers available" error printers are listed but unable to print test page, freezes explorer, spooler svc running.
I have a single Windows 7 machine images the same as 15 or so others from the same image and after two weeks of working fine I get the "No Printers installed" error message when trying to print. I checked the Printers and Devices control panel and all the printers are listed with no errors indicated. I can access all their properties, and the correct printer is defined as the default. If, however, I attempt a test print from a printers the print queue shows the status of the print as "spooling" and explorer freezes then Win7 closes and restarts explorer, and the queue empties out. The printers are network printers with a printer share in the AD from our 2003 SBS server. No one else has this issue, only this one individual. I cannot use the other local "fake" printers like the XPS printer or fax either. I have restarted the spooler service and verified it is running. I have rebooted the machine. I have run sfc /scannow I have run a chkdsk with the recover bad sectors option checked I have removed and re-added the printers I have combed the event logs and can only find informational entries regarding the assignment of default printer selection and the removal and re-addition of the printers. None of this has resolved the issue. I am about to try and perform a repair installation of 7 and if that doesn't work I guess I'll have to re-image the machine. I'm hoping someone here might have a way to fix this before I get to that point.

Hi, I would like to suggest you uninstall and reinstall the printer driver for Windows 7 on your Windows 7 computer. If it does not work, you may also perform the following steps to check the issue: Clear Printer Spooler Files and Enable the Spooler Service ================================= 1. Click Start, type "Services.msc" (without the quotation marks) in the Start Search box and press Enter. 2. Double-click "Printer Spooler" in the Services list. 3. Click Stop and click OK. 4. Click Start, type "%WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers" in the Start Search box and press Enter, delete all files in this folder. 5. Click Start, type "Services.msc" (without the quotation marks) in the Start Search box and press Enter. 6. Double-click "Printer Spooler" in the Services list. 7. Click on Start. In the Startup Type list, make sure that "Automatic" is selected and click OK. I had done all of that, I removed the printers and completely purged the drivers then reloaded, though I didn't think that was the issue because even the "built-in" printers like the XPS document writer and the fax printer did not work either. I checked the printer spooler and nothing was present. I restarted the service I ensured it was set to automatic, and rebooted the computer. I don't know what happened but it was hosed. I tried to see about performing a repair install but the disks I had from the vendor only performed a wipe and restore. So I ended up just re-imaging the machine to the way it was when i deployed it. I did final configuration tweaks and then returned to box to service so it is fixed now. I am curious as to what caused the issue and a more appropriate way to fix it, but I didn't have time to delve that deeply into it.
